Comments

[A] In the acknowledgment section, the paper [7] indicated an expression of gratitude to the provincial government for providing "permits". But based on RA 9147 [4], wildlife permits are solely issued by the DENR through its regional offices.

In this case, the "permits" mentioned in the paper probably meant "Prior Informed Consent" from the local government units as required by the DENR for the issuance of wildlife permits. DENR Cordillera, however, was not acknowledged as stipulated in Section 4.1 of the Wildlife Gratuitous Permit. The wildlife permits for specimens collected may be verified through a simple Freedom of Information (FOI) request to the DENR regional offices.

[B] In the original publication, the location is indicated as "Babuyan-Fluß, Cayasan." Cayasan is now a Sitio under Barangay Tagabinet, City of Puerto Princesa, Province of Palawan [2].

[C] This location cannot be verified in current maps. The nearest sounding name of "Gueron" is the Municipality of Gerona, Province of Tarlac. Tarlac is right beside the Province of Zambales.

[D] In the 2021 paper, there was a collection done on what was indicated as "Iligan City - Barangay Merila" (page 58, reference 10). There is no Barangay Merila in Iligan City. Merila is a community that is split between Barangay Tubod and Barangay Ubaldo Laya. However, the GPS coordinates provided in the paper point to a location in Barangay Tipanoy.

[E] The paper [5] did not indicate date of collection. Since the paper was published in 2016, collection may have been done after 2001 when RA 9147 [4] was passed. If this is the case, the date and the location can be verified by evaluating the Wildlife Gratuitous Permit issued for this research.

[F] The paper [2] indicated a specific location as "Suba River". "Suba" is actually a local dialect translation of the word "River". There is a large river running through the Municipality of San Miguel, Surigao del Sur. The river is called Tago River. This may be the "Suba" that the paper is referring to.
